Sailor Moon Apron

BonKyuBOMBGIRL

I always get so excited when I learn a new sewing technique. It quickly leads to a larger project that allows me to try it out on something practical. @^^@ This time around I taught myself how to applique using knit fabrics!

Now that I am out of college, I have more time to sew creatively & freely. No more guidelines to follow or teachers to please. Which means I have time to make fun gifts for others. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ).。.:*・

I have particularly been in the mood to give back to those who bring a smile to my face. This time around I'm giving back to the hilarious Martina from the YouTube Channel Eat Your Kimchi! If you haven't heard of them, they make entertaining (yet very informative) videos about Korean culture. I'm a huge fan of their FAPFAPs & cooking tutorials. ♡

They just opened a their very own coffee shop, so I thought, "Why not make them something practical and cute?" :) It's no secret that Martina loves Sailor Moon, so I designed a Sailor Moon apron that she could use on days when she wants to feel extra magical at work. ;)

I wanted the design to be simplistic but still have all the details from Sailor Moon's iconic outfit without being too costumey.

I find stitching really close to the edges of things oddly enjoyable, so I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more of this technique. ^^

I added a petticoat underneath just to give the skirt some volume in the photographs. It's still just as cute without one!

This past week, I packed it up & shipped it to Korea. I hope she likes it! It was a fun project that was relatively quick to make. So if other people are interested in one I could make one for them too! :3

So there you have it! This is actually the very first apron I have ever made. What do you think?? Do you think I did Sailor Moon justice? Can you see yourself rocking this in the kitchen? Please comment below if you'd like to see this in the online shop in the future!

Oh, and don't worry! I didn't forget about Simon. I already have an idea in mind for his apron. I promise it will be a lot manlier than Martina's. ^^

UPDATE: 09.24.14

Martina loved it! It was so great to see her reaction and I couldn't be more thrilled! You can check out the video of them opening my package in their blogpost HERE :D
